2023 Acura TLX vs 2023 Infiniti Q50
The Acura brand is known for producing a great array of performance-heavy vehicles including the renowned TLX. However, can Infiniti provide a better experience in the Q50? If you're a fan of Infiniti sports cars, you may want to reconsider after seeing what the newest TLX can do when it comes to driving capability and interior design.
Performance
The new 2023 Acura TLX has two engine options to choose from. The standard 2.0L VTEC Turbo brings you 272 horsepower which is already very impressive for an attainable performance sedan, but the TLX also received the Type S treatment this model year which includes a 3.0L Turbo V6 that supports 355 horsepower. That's not even the most impressive part. The 2023 TLX was built for success which is why you'll find a double-wishbone front suspension, lightweight materials in the rigid frame, and an electro-servo brake system that's been transferred over from the famous Acura NSX supercar. And for greater precision and handling, there's an available Adaptive Damper System for cornering grip on any surface. And being an Acura vehicle, the TLX is equipped to handle the brand-exclusive Super Handling All-Wheel Drive system.
You also have two distinct engine types to choose from in the new Q50, the standard being a twin-turbo V6 with 300 horsepower. Upgrading to the 3.0-liter engine will get you 400 horsepower which is a bit more than the TLX Type S, but you'll be missing the carefully-crafted build and additional driving enhancements that the TLX has to offer. You can opt for the available Intelligent All-Wheel Drive in the Q50, but there's a reason why Acura's SH-AWD holds a powerful name in the driving community.
Safety Features
Out of the many standard safety feature packages out there, AcuraWatch has frequently stood out as being one of the more likable ones out there. You can expect automatic braking and obstacle detection, but there are also driver-assist features that do a great job of safely keeping you where you're supposed to be. Acura owners often love AcuraWatch because of how well it works and how easy it is to use. But aside from these standard tools, you have the option to include other available features like a Blind Spot Information System, Rear Cross Traffic Monitor, and Surround-View Camera.
For the new Infiniti Q50, the only notable safety features are Intelligent Cruise Control, Blind Spot Intervention, Forward Emergency Braking, and Lane Departure Warning. These features aren't bad at all, but the TLX does offer a lot more for even greater security while on the road.
Interior
You know it's a great sports car when you step inside and you don't ever want to leave. The new TLX does a great job of luring you in with the promise of genuine materials like authentic leather (with available full-grain Milano leather) and open-pore wood along with real metal accents. As the driver, you'll absolutely love the cockpit setup as it's very driver-focused with a wrap-around design and easy-to-access buttons along the center console and flat-bottomed steering wheel. You'll find it easier to drive freely with ergonomic and well-bolstered sports seats designed to hold you in place comfortably. To make every drive a fun and exciting one to remember, the Iconic Drive Ambient Cabin Lighting feature has 24 distinct modes to choose from and you can blast your favorite music through the available ELS Studio 3D premium audio system with 17 speakers.
If Infiniti had to make compromises when designing the new Q50, then we suspect that the cabin area is where many of the cuts were made because there really isn't much going on in this department. At most, there's a Dual Zone Automatic Temperature Control feature and a Bose audio system with 16 speakers, but not much else is available to make the Q50 feel like a fancy sports car. You can opt for the available semi-aniline leather-appointed seats, but we can't help but love the TLX's Milano leather even more.
Bottom Line
For a more fun sports car experience with incredible drive quality, the 2023 Acura TLX has a lot more to offer. While it has a powerful engine, there's also excellent craftsmanship in the overall build while providing adequate protection and a cabin fit for the performance car enthusiast. The new Infiniti Q50 may have a great engine, but it's pretty bland in every other aspect.
