Like many major automakers, Acura has committed to designing vehicles that rely on electric power rather than gasoline. Recently, Acura's new performance electric vehicle (EV) made its debut at Monterey Car Week, one of the more prominent automotive events held each year.
Why Develop a Performance EV?
One compelling reason to create an EV is the added value it provides customers. Generally, EVs require less maintenance, making them a more affordable option. Plus, they can travel hundreds of miles before needing a recharge, eliminating frequent gas station stops and reducing your carbon footprint along the way.
A performance EV can also help drivers embrace this new technology without feeling as if they're sacrificing style or capability. In fact, performance vehicles are often less fuel-efficient due to the high energy they generate, so the switch to electric power could offer even more value.
Manufacturing the Vehicle in the U.S.
This concept vehicle will be built in Ohio at one of Honda's U.S. manufacturing plants. Since Honda is Acura's parent company, the choice to manufacture this EV means Acura's first electric model will be produced domestically. As part of the process, the facility will undergo a $700 million renovation to support EV production.
Timeline Still Uncertain
At Monterey Car Week, Acura showcased a functioning prototype of this new vehicle, though there is currently no specific timeline for its release. Factory upgrades and other necessary steps must be completed before the vehicle is available to dealers and buyers. Nevertheless, the anticipation is that this new SUV will help boost overall interest and sales of Acura's EV lineup.
