With Tom Blomqvist and Colin Braun at the helm, Acura Meyer Shank Racing (Acura MSR) won in dramatic style in Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen. The squad secured a late-race triumph in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship for the second consecutive year. In fact, Blomqvist didn't seize the lead until the very last lap, when the two cars ahead had to pit for fuel. The intensity was palpable as the contenders dueled fiercely for supremacy. Earlier in June, the team also raced to victory at the Detroit Grand Prix during the closing stages.
Early on, track conditions were far from ideal. Heavy downpours left the surface dangerously slick, triggering several incidents and prompting multiple safety car periods. To compound matters, the Acura #60 ARX-06 suffered from a faulty windshield wiper. Braun was forced to peer through the side windows and depend heavily on his spotters to navigate the course.
As the skies cleared and the track began to dry, Acura's crew was among the first to switch to slick tires. That astute call paid dividends, allowing them to stay competitive through the contest's first half. When Braun rejoined for the second stint, the track temperature had soared. He methodically carved his way up the order into the top three, and on the final lap, his fuel load was just enough to cross the finish line.
Acura MSR has earned pole position en route to this win and is optimistic about maintaining its momentum. According to Blomqvist, they're getting better and better every race.
